Artemis Program

The Artemis Program is a multi-phased initiative led by NASA aimed at returning humans to the Moon and establishing a sustainable human presence there by the end of the decade. Named after Artemis, the Greek goddess of the Moon and twin sister of Apollo, this program seeks to advance lunar exploration and utilize the Moon as a stepping stone for future missions to Mars. It involves the development of new technologies, spacecraft, and landers, including the Orion crew capsule and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The program emphasizes international collaboration and aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon, focusing on the lunar South Pole region. Additionally, Artemis aims to conduct scientific research, explore lunar resources, and foster commercial partnerships to support long-term human exploration.
